
The weather team produces the weather segments of the show. They gather data throughout the week, create maps, and develop graphics using advanced animation software. Weather team members also work as reporters. They cover stories that are related to a weather topic with national appeal. Interns have developed stories about potential budget cuts to the National Weather Service, how weather can impact how your hair looks and what conditions can lead to seasonal flooding. A weather reporter is assigned a story, interviews various people relating to the topic, writes scripts and edits video.

Weather Team
JOB DESCRIPTION
The weather team produces the weather segments of the show. They gather data from various sources and create maps and graphics using animation software. Weather team members also serve as weather reporters. A reporter is assigned a story, interviews various people relating to the topic, writes scripts and edits video.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Works with the weather producer anchor to gathers data from various sources to produce elements of the weather segments.
2. Works with the weather anchor to prepare a national, regional and a current condition synopsis.
3. Operates the production switcher, audio board and graphics computer, when needed.
4. Works with the weather producer and anchor to improve show elements.
REQUIREMENTS

PREFERENCES
The following skills and related job experience are preferred in candidates, but are not required:
1. Some meteorology experience in radio and/or television.
2. A basic understanding of general weather patterns and meteorology terminology.
3. Coursework that relates to this job description.
4. Experience in graphic software.
5. Ability to shoot and edit video.
In addition, candidates must be available for approximately 7 hours a week. This includes two regularly scheduled weekly meetings:
Wednesdays 3:00 – 4:00 P.M.
Thursdays 3:00 - 6:30 P.M.
The amount of hours per week is subject to change depending on circumstances. The weather team position is a one semester non-paid position.
Weather Producer
JOB DESCRIPTION
The weather producer provides leadership to the weather team. They work with the news director to make decisions about stories, assignments and weathercast content. They also direct weekly weather team meetings, help establish team goals, and act as a weather team member. The weather producer serves on the Studio One Executive Council and Board of Directors.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Gathers data from various sources to produce elements of the weather segments.
2. Works with anchor to develop ad-lib segments.
3. Works with the producer to make rundown changes during the live telecast.
4. Provides leadership during weather segments and works with weather team members during the live telecast.
5. Works with the news director to improve show elements.
REQUIREMENTS
1. Prefer at least one semester of experience with the Studio One weather team.
2. Experience in graphic software.
3. Strong communication and organizational skills.
4. Experience in a leadership role.
5. Prefer ability to write, shoot and edit video.
6. Ability to resolve conflict in a positive manner.
7. Ability to work individually and as a member of a team, when required.
In addition, candidates must be available for approximately 8 hours a week, including the following times:
Wednesdays 3:00 – 4:00 P.M.
Thursdays 3:00 - 6:30 P.M.
Fridays 9:05 - 10:00 A.M.
The amount of hours per week is subject to change depending on circumstances. The weather producer is a one semester non-paid position. Applicants who are available for two semesters are preferred, but consideration will be given to qualified candidates that are only available for one semester.
Weather Anchor
JOB DESCRIPTION
The weather anchor serves as a weather team member during the week, and presents the weathercast during the live television show. Prior to the live show, they gather various weather data, prepare a national forecast and create maps and graphics. The weather anchor is usually filled by someone with previous experience in Studio One.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Gathers data from various sources to produce elements of the weather segments.
2. Prepares a national summary of current weather events.
3. Provides an educational explanation of weather events.
4. Prepares weather graphics and works with the Studio One senior weather director and Studio One Executive Director to coordinate the logistics of the weather segments.
5. Works with other cast members to develop ad-lib segments.
6. Works with the producer to make rundown changes during the live telecast.
7. Anchors weather segments and works with other cast members during ad-lib segments.
8. Works with the producer and anchor to improve show elements.
REQUIREMENTS
1. Demonstrated meteorology experience in radio and/or television. This includes an understanding of general weather patterns and meteorology terminology.
2. Posess a video which shows anchoring ability on live television.
3. Successful completion of courses that relate to this job description. As a minimum, candidates must have completed an introductory course in synoptic meteorology.
4. Strong communication and organizational skills.
5. Experience in a leadership role.
6. Ability to project a professional presence on television.
7. Experience with computers and graphic software.
8. Ability to work individually and as a member of a team, when required.
PREFERENCES

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The weather anchor is required to follow the guidelines established by the executive directors for on-camera presentation. Anchor will not alter their appearance without first seeking approval from their team leader. Team leaders will not approve the following: visibly pierced facial parts with body rings; drastic changes in hair color; drastic changes in hair length, including hair extensions; and/or facial tattoos. Weather anchors will be expected to read copy and accurately pronounce words at a style and rate consistent with national broadcast standards. In addition, the weather anchor cannot publicly endorse products, services or political campaigns.
